There are, at present, thirteen women political prisoners in the Israeli jails, all of them in Hasharon Prison (Tel Mond.).

Hasharon Prison (Tel Mond)

Health care

When a woman political prisoner is taken to hospital, she suffers a lot from the prison authorities: they handcuff her to the bed, and for 24 hours a day there is a male guard within sight, in addition to a female guard. Therefore, women prisoners try not to go to hospital, even if they have serious health problems.

Family visits

Recently, the prison authorities have increased the family searches. They begin the searches outside the hall where families are waiting. These searches take a lot of time, and are performed in front of all the visitors.

The canteen

Recently, the prison authorities have required the women political prisoners to buy large quantities of everything. These quantities are much higher than they need. For example, they must buy 24 liters of oil, whereas they use only 10 liters per month. This means that they have to spend much more money than they would if they bought only what they needed. The women political prisoners' families are still forbidden from bringing shoes. The women prisoners have to buy shoes in the canteen where they are much more expensive and, most of the time, there are no shoes suitable for women.
