Women's Organization for Political Prisoners (WOFPP)

Nura elHashlamon was released on 31 August 2008 !

6 April 2008

On 6 April 2008 Nura elHaslamon stopped her hunger strike that had lasted 24 days, because of deterioration of her health situation, and after the prison authorities promised her that during the next family visit she will be allowed to meet her children without being separated by a partition, (usually during family visits a glass partition separates between prisoner and family), and that her brother Nur, who is also a political prisoner, will be brought to visit her.
WOFPP's lawyer Taghreed Jahshan who visited Nura frequently, reported about the period of her hunger strike: Nura was transferred to an isolation cell in Hasharon Prison, and after some days she was transferred again to an isolation cell in Neve Tirza Prison where she suffered from harsher conditions. The prison authorities took away all her clothes and allowed her to use one blanket only, though she actually has six. They did not allow her to use soap and refused to hand over her Koran. In protest, Nura refused to be checked by a physician; this induced the prison authorities to give her back her clothes; but when she returned to the cell, her clothes were taken away again. On 25 March 2008 Nura was transferred to Kishon Detention Center (Jalame).

March 2008

Urgent appeal

Free Nura elHashlamon !!!

On 13 March 2008 Nura elHaslamon went on a hunger strike again!

The Israeli authorities hold Nura in an administrative detention for more than 18 months. On 12 March 2008 they extended her administrative detention for three months more.

Nura is demanding her immediate release!

Recently in addition to the administrative detention the Israeli authorities tried Nura in a military court and she was sentenced to a fine of 5000 NIS. Her family paid the fine but the Israeli authorities refused to release her.

Nura Jaber elHashlamon, from Hebron, mother of six, was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces on 17 September 2006. She had been detained in Etzion Detention Center and in Ashkelon Detention Center. After having been subjected to harsh interrogations, she was transferred to Hasharon Prison (Tel Mond) and placed in administrative detention for six months. Since the time of her detention the Israeli authorities have constantly extended her administrative detention. In protest, Nura went on a hunger strike for 27 days in December 2007. On 13 March 2008 Nura began again a hunger strike, demanding her immediate release. The prison authorities punished Nura because of the strike and transferred her to an isolation cell and took away most of her belongings.

Administrative detention means that the detainee is being held without charge or trial, and the detention can arbitrarily and endlessly be extended.

Nura's husband, Muhamad Sami elHashlamon, is also an administrative detainee. He is held in Negev Prison (Ktziot) since 2005 and, like Nura's, his administrative detention is constantly extended by the Israeli authorities.
